How do I go pro with poetry?

I've been doing poetry for awhile, my friends think I should submit my work and maybe go pro. So where can I submit my work? I've tried a few places before, but they were rip offs that just wanted money. And how would I go pro? What are my options?

if you really think you're good, combine your best poems into a book and take it to a publisher, but copyright first if you're serious. it might take time and money but if it's what you want to do then it's worth it.

You think your thoughts are worth my money? - you can submit your work here, but be aware that recognition is 'hit-n'-miss' here.

You should not concern yourself with such bogus things.

Well, if you're in school there should be several genuine contests available for you to compete. As far as becoming a professional, I say you should continue writing and search for an agent. Here is a site where you can send in quarries for an agent: http://www.querytracker.net/

Search around on that site for agencies, and see how palatable their conditions are for you, what they're looking for, etc. Also, try emailing some prominent poets--many eminent authors enjoy responding to aspirants. If you need additional assistance, feel free to email me. Good luck!
