How do I go about getting my CPA with a degree in Economics and Geography?

I plan to take up work experience in acconting throughout my course part-time, but how do i make the leap into the accounting world and get my CPA.
Another option i was looking into was becoming a CFA, i've read its a gruelling process, if anyone can shed some light on what the process is to becoming either one of these
