How do I go about getting a business grant without getting ripped off?

I went to a class on sunday regarding getting a business grant for my failing business and they start out charging you $3,000. Up to 10,000. And there's no quarantee that I'll get the grant. I need help. Does anybody know where I can get a business grant? Also, how do I know if a company is a scam or not?
