How do I get voice recognition for my Skype headset to work in Vista?

The Cardo Scala headset says it needs English Speach Recognizer 5.1 to work. While Vista is up to revision 8, of same, they do show legacy support. But when I try to create a profile it tells me it can't generate the engine and to try another device or engine. Tech support is closed for the holidays.
