How do I get the smell of cigarette smoke out of clothes?

I went to a consignment store to sell some of my son's old clothing and was told they couldn't take them because they smelled of cigarette smoke. I washed them before I took them to the store, but they still smelled of smoke. Is there any other way to get rid of the smell? Thanks.
