How do I get the ignition on my 1982 Honda FT 500 Ascot out of "P" or Park?

I just bought a 1982 Honda FT 500 Ascot yesterday. Rode it home all that jazz, then I went to park it and figured I'd switch the ignition to P to lock the handlebars, well I didn't realize that this leaves the brake light on (and didn't even lock the handlebars) so now I can't get the ignition to switch out of P at all. I've tried fiddling with different things like holding the clutch or pressing on the brakes and wiggling the handlebars but can't seem to find it. I had to disconnect my battery last night because I didn't want to have to recharge it so if anybody knows how to get the ignition back to On or Off that would be very helpful. Thanks
