I've been having a ton of trouble learning to knit. The yarn "tail" (the dangling end that is not attached to the ball) keeps getting in my way. The main booklet I've been using to learn doesn't say what to with this loose yarn. It actually doesn't mention it at all, as if it doesn't exist. Yet the tail keeps tangling up my work, and I think it's one reason it's taking me so long to correctly learn the basic stitches. If I cut the tail with scissors, it's too short and that also screws me up. One video I looked at said to work the tail into my stitches. I tried that, and it did get rid of the tail. But it also made my stitches too thick and lumpy to comfortably work with. So what IS supposed to be done with that annoying tail?
In reply to the first answer I was given (by Beth), like I said, my problem is that the presence of the tail is keeping me from making good stitches. So it is not really possible for me to "do a few rows" and then work it in because it causes me trouble right from the beginning. I'm struggling to finish any stitches at all, let alone rows of them, because the tail is such a problem. If I have to be able to stitch multiple rows before I can dispose of it, that's pretty discouraging.
