How do I get rid of the Chat & Mobile box on my mail screen?

I have no desire to do Chat or anything else. To begin with the box for chat&mobile was just cluttering up my screen. Now it really infuriates me by dragging the point-of-view away from my mail to try and get me to add information to the chat box. I really just want to read mail when I go to read mail. Can anyone help?
