How do I get Photoshop to work if the serial number has been used more than twice?

So my friend gave me Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. He installed it on his computer then gave it to me. It worked fine; until my computer crashed. So I installed it again. It would work fine, then a pop up started appearing. It stated that this serial number has been used more than twice and that I should go deactivate one or both of the other programs. The thing is, I can't really deactivate the original because it belongs to someone else and I can't deactivate the second because it was on my computer before it crashed.
I use photoshop all the time and I feel like crying. please help!
