How do I get out of a 2yr cell phone contract with at&t?

Some one said one way you could get out of it is to pay the exit fee or move out of there coverage area because i really don't wanna have the same phone for 2YRS! SO will it work if i buy a phone from at&t in california and move to oregon because im staying with my dad anyway for the school year (im 15) orr...how much is the exit fee?
