How do I get network on my LG KF600 cell phone?

My friend gave me this phone (LG KF600) because I liked it so much. It's a 2G phone so it doesn't get much signal. I have a 3G AT&T Sim card. When i turn on the phone it usually says "no network." Sometimes though, it will get signal but it only lasts for about five minutes at the most. Is there anything I can do so I can get at least some signal all of the time? Thanks!
