How do I get my USB Headset to work as the phone audio device with Messenger 9 on...

...Windows Vista x64? 6 months ago I tried to upgrade from Messenger 8 to version 9, however even after talking with phone support, I could not get my phone-in / phone-out support working properly, so I uninstalled version 9 and went back to version 8. Lately, I've gotten nagged every time I started Messenger to upgrade to version 9, so I thought I'd try again...same problem.

On the Yahoo! Messenger Preference Calling & Devices screen, I take the option to "Open the call setup assistant". In this application I select my USB headset for my microphone & speakers I want to use. This works great. When I close the setup assistant and get back to the Preferences Calling & Devices screen, I can see the Microphone and Speakers entries now show my USB headset...although they are grayed out.

However, when I place a call, instead of hearing the audio in my headset, I hear it though my PC speakers. After ending the call, I go back to Preferences...it still shows my USB headset as the default audio device for Messenger calls.

I do not have this problem with Messenger version 8. Since I need to participate in a daily conference call, I am going to have to uninstall version 9 again and reinstall version 8.

Yes, my headset is not my default PC speaker...and no, I will not change it to be. It is ridiculous to think I would have to change the default audio playback device in Windows every time I want to make or receive a phone call.

Yes, my PC is up to date with Windows (Vista x64) patches.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Is there a solution?

TIA...Chazz
