I just got a new dog (a dachsund) two days ago and I have to keep him in the bathroom during the day while I am at work because he is not fully potty trained yet. I do put his bed, his crate, the toys he has, his food/water in the room and I leave the light on and turn a radio on for him. I am unable to come home halfway through the day to let him out so that is why he is in the bathroom. When I leave him in there, he whines really bad. I have tried the 'No' command with him but I am unable to gradually train him a little at time to stay in that room without whining. I don't want him to whine all day because I don't want my neighbors to be bothered with him. What are some good ways to train him to be calm in that room and not whine so much?

Thank you for all of the help...he really isn't a puppy anymore because he is three. I think that the owners before us should have house trained him by now but I guess not. We did get those puppy pad things and he pees on those, which is good. I just wish they taught him how not to whine haha.
