how do i get my mac mini to get photo booth working on a dell monitor?

i have a mac mini, which is plugged into a dell monitor. everything works perfectly, but i want to use the photobooth application. i was wondering if its possible to get a webcam that is compatible with macs, and if the application and effects and stuff would work.
