How do i get my dogs to stay home instead of wandering around the countryside?

i have 3 dogs. 2 saint bernards around 2 years old and a black lab about 1 year old and they sleep in a kennel at night but i let them out during the day and last night i was coming home and i see my dogs about a mile away from my house next to the highway. and the dogs have never been on a leash or tie rope because i live on a farm and i didnt see a need for it at the time. so if anyone has any tips i would appreciate it! thanks!
