How do I get from Phila, PA to madison square garden, NY by public transportation?

If you take the train to NY it will go to Penn Station (NY) whuich is in the vbasement of Madison Square Garden. And Yes, the station will be open after the concert.
 
I am going to the Metallica concert on Sat. I know I can take a train there but am having trouble planning my route. Also I know that the show wont be over until late. Maybe around midnight. Does the Penn Station run that late? Any information would be really helpful. I have looked online but havent gotten anything helpful. Links? TY
