How do i get Civilization 5 to work?

I just installed Civilization 5 on my computer through Steam. When i try to start it up, the window pops up as if it were about to start, but then a second window pops up over it saying, "Sid Meier's Civilization V has encountered a problem ans needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This all happens before the game even starts, i don't get to the opening video or anything... When i clicked to see more info about the error, it said:

If anyone can help me with this, Please do. I run Windows XP
