How do I get cellphone photos on my computer?

I have a Motorola z6 cellphone and I have snapped many photos which have been saved on an external microSD. I want to transfer the photos to my computer, but when I plug in the cellphone with the USB cable it seems to only transfer music, even if I go the the source files. What should I do to get these photos on my computer? They're not hidden or in a different drive.
