How do I get a vapour lock out of my gas tank?

Every time I fill my car up, it spits gas at me. More than once resulting in my feet getting soaked in gas.
 
There is a breather tube for the filler pipe that is there for that reason. If you're getting splashback, this tube might be pinched off or plugged. Check that out. Hope this helps.
 
I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra that was happening on. Turns out there is a check valve inside the filler tube that is part of the emission system. This valve got stuck closed, you couldn't get any gas into the tank. The check engine light was on when this would occur. Had to have the valve replaced.
