How do i get a picture with my Philips DVP3120 DVD Player on a Digital

Lifestyles 1080p TV? I have used phono leads and YPbPr connection leads and all i can get a distorted image of the DVD screen saver/DVD picture. I have tried progressive scan on the DVD player and can't seem to find it on the TV but whether or not either of these will work or the player itself is broke is another thing all together. Any answers or ideas are appreciated thanks :-)
