how do i get a good car radio signal?

I have an old car (20 years old), it is a g reg honda prelude. I have in it a ministry of sound hifi with the cd, mp3 attachment. Some kind person on a push bike snapped off my automatic aerial holding on to it at the traffic lights and even though i replaced it with a universal rubber aerial, i cant get half the radio stations or they crackle a lot.

please help, its driving me mad, don't get too technical i don't understand electricals very well lol and its got to be done on the cheap as i've just spent £130 on the exhaust
