How do I gain good posture?

I went shopping at a clothes store for a sweater and a shirt, and when I picked one out, the sales lady helped me fit into it and she said to stand up straight; I had bad posture. She told me to stand up straight quite a couple of times and even my mom said I need to straighten up. I even noticed how my back hurts sometimes from slouching and I try stretching and shifting around to get rid of the pain, but it hurts even as I twist.
How do I gain good posture? Any excercises, tips, advice, please?
