how do I fix windows media player after removing the wincodec pro trojan?

Ive removed the wincodec pro trojan, that creates a problem with the default media players so that they can try to make you buy a codec, we removed the trojan monthes ago, but our Windows media player is still damaged, we cannot download from microsoft or windows, because it says we need media player 9 first, but we either have a broken media player 9, or an even older version, and it cant play any wmv files, we use to have 10 or 11.... Anyone know how to fix this?
