i don't have a job right now so i cant afford a mechanic. I've taken the dash off before so i know how to do that if i have to(and yes i know i have to I'm just being hopeful).
im not changing the odometer, it got stuck at 98000+ miles and most shops wont do anything because of legal issues(oil changes, tune ups, etc.) i dont care about resell and there is no inspection in my state(at least not yearly, i dont know about if you try to sell it)
by the way im not a machanic so the simpler the better

watch what you are doing because there are a lot of legal problems with changing an odometer in a car.

if you ever go to sell the car the DMV and state can really screw you over if the odometer doesn't match what they have.

if it is a stepper motor odometer you have to replace the old one and write down the old mileage on a sticker and place it on the drivers side door by the tire sticker and make sure you never misrepresent the mileage the car has.

if it is digital you'll have to replace the instrument cluster and the computer will have the mileage information stored in the computer and will automatically set it.

is it regular odometer with the old white numbers you might be able to fix but the #'s will not line up so unless you plan on keeping the car till death do you part its up to you if its a digital dash can't fix you can get one at junk yard but the mileage will be different you might have to find one with a little higher mileage if its lower and you go for inspection it will set of red flags are you sure its the dash and not the speedo cable or the speedo gear in the trans itself
