My headphones were plugged in but somehow they got wrapped around my chair and both the mic and headphones were plugged into the front of my laptop, and they got pulled downwards pretty hard (i dont remember how, this was a long time ago) and now they dont work. is there a way to get then to work? I push upwards when I do the sound testing and I can hear a little static, otherwise I hear nothing.
and he headphones dont work either.
please help me fix them.
thanks!

You have probably havesheared the wires away from the plug and, as the plugs are usually part of the wire, you will need to replace them. You must either remake the plugs by cutting back the wires and re-soldering some new ones on or buy a new 3.5mm stereo to stereo lead, cut it in half and rejoin the wires to each new half. This is easier because you won't necessarily need to get soldering, you can wrap the wires (like for like) and then cover them in insulating tape so they don't touch.

However, in my experience it's not usually so easy to do as the wires in headphones and microphones tend to be thin and fiddly to work with, sometimes continuously breaking when ever you try to strip the insulation off them. The wires are designed to be flexible and light and this means thin. The strength in a earphone lead usually comes from either the insulation or a thin nylon cord running down the cable with the wires.

Good luck though, if the headphones are expensive it's worth a go as new plugs or a connecting lead aren't usually that expensive.
