the front seat of my 2002 ford mondeo has all of a sudden stopped clicking into place when i move it forward. basically, when i try to adjust the seat and move it forward from the lever underneath the seat, it just slides back to the furthest position, which means that i can't reach the pedals to drive.
can anyone tell me what could have caused this problem and could i fix it myself? if not, would it be a pricey job at the mechanics?

thanks for the help xx

the seat slids on two runners on which is a thing called a rack which is part of the runner with sloted holes in it on the seat is a catch when you lift the bar it lifts the catches out of the rack holes check the return spings are ok it relies on the spings to re- engage the catches

i doubt it broke as car seats have to meet a certain level of crash safety...so i'd say something has worked it's way into the mechanism. maybe a toy or some other debris? get a hand mirror and a flashlight at night and have a close look.
or just feel around under there, carefully, while moving the release....be careful not to get pinched or cut.

I've the same (02 Mond.) but never looked under a seat. I think it might be a seat out job; not easy and it'll be quite heavy. I would attempt it, but wouldn't recommend it for you. Sorry.
