How do I Find the derivative of a function? How do I use the first principles rule?

Ok, heres the question i was given thats giving me a bit of trouble. Can someone please help me???

Find the derivative of the following function from First Principles:
y = 2x^2 - 4x + 5

Can someone please show me the full working out so i can do the rest of the questions? Thanks... :)
