How do I find out what size road bike I need based on how long my legs are?

Is there any basic equation to find out what size bike would fit me(50cm, 52cm, 54cm), I really don't know. I'm 5'6 and wear jeans 28x28, so I'm on the shorter side. What size bike would be best for me?
