I have heard many people say that you should have a mechanic look over a used car before you purchase it. This is a great idea, but I don't know who to take it to? A local shop? Dealership? I don't want to take it to a Speedee or Midas, because they perform more minimal services. What do you recommend? Thanks so much for your time!!

BEST thing you can do is have a car inspected before buying it. I always recommend not only going to one shop but 2 or more. All makes of cars have independent specialist shops. Every make and model has its own quirks to look out for so its best to find guys who know the little "secrets". So a local independent specialist in the make of the car is best. Then another one. Miles and year mean NOTHING its all condition.

do not go to new car dealer- their cost will be $150 but yes a quality job

some neutral place that sounds like "joes service and repair"

call the place or places on te phone and ask them for a quick list of what they check and their fee.
expect to pay $60-80 dollars, go to ick up the vehicle with the seller so as they will converse with the inspector with you
