How do I export flash files as .fla instead of .swf? (I'm using flash mx 2004

Whenever I export or save a file in Flash it saves it as a .swf instead of .fla. .swf uses the shockwave player and it doesn't work online, at least not on any of the computers I have tried it on (besides, strangely, my PSP).
