How do I document my wife's gambling for divorce court?

My wife won't/can't stop gambling and won't get help for her problem. She is a chronic compulsive gambler who would spend her last dollar on gambling rather than food for the children. All the money she earns at her job is squandered on gambling until she's broke. This leaves me to pay for everything with my income, which is never enough. We had to give up our home because of this. When I try to talk to her about it, she will fly into a rage, and has actually physically assaulted me a few times. I called the police one time when she attacked me, showed them the injuries she inflicted upon me, and they arrested me. If I divorce her, she will try to convince the court that I should pay her alimony forever. I don't think this is fair as she has squandered our assets for at least half of our marriage if not longer, causing great hardship for our family. What can I do to prevail and provide for our youngest, my 16 year old daughter, and not have to give my wife free gambling money for the rest of my life? Courts in the USA are anti-male/father, especially here in NY.
