I have found that I was severely overcharged by my doctor. He charged my insurance company $3025 for a cpap machine and mask that can easily be bought from a medical supply company for around $600. He billed for every piece of the machine and mask, $1750 for just the machine and another $600 for the included humidifier(plus another $55 for the tank) and every other possible piece.
When I questioned him, and the woman that handles his billing, they both gave the same canned answers...."we have to bill this way because the insurance company tells us to", "you may need to call in the next 2 years if the machine breaks down", " you have to pay more because others don't always pay their bills", and "if you refuse to pay, we'll send you to collections and ruin your credit".
After the insurance payments and their adjustments to the bill, my charge was $1055.
I really want to put this guy through hell. Anything that I can legally do would be great. I am sure that this is his regular practice, as I heard him arguing with another patient about his charges while I was waiting to see him once.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
