How Do I delete photos/ Upload music onto my I-Touch?

I got my I-Touch from someone else. They didn't delete anything not songs or Pictures. I'm trying to delete their pictures but on it there's no trash can when I open up a picture. When I connect The Touch to my computer it doesn't connect to my I-Tunes. Therefore I cant even upload songs. I'm not sure how the touch is supposed to work, so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. That's why I need your help.
