How do I deal with someone that argues with your asked answer?

He asks a simple question. I answer the question, even though it's my children's business. Then he argues/questions about my answer AS IF I knew the answer.
IE: Why is the bag of candy there? Because they wanted it. But why did they want it? I don't know! Ask them?
I try to give him, 'asked and answered' but just makes me an *itch for now answering or not knowing.

How do I deal with that?
