How do i cut images for html tables?

I know that a single image can be cutoff into pieces then create links for table rows and columns to put it all together.

Lets say i have a single image created in PS, and I want to cut if off into pieces for each of my prepared HTML table rows and columns.
How would I cut it into pieces so that if I save each of the pieces, it will still look as one when placed in an HTML table?? I mean so that it will still have its proportion??


Please explain. I really want to know how.
