How do i copy files to my hard drive from my mac?

i have tried copying folders and files to my hard drive and im unable to do that... can you please tell me how should i enable sharing or maybe there is another way of doing that... i can copy anything from the hard drive to my mac but how do i copy file to the hard drive??
