How do I connect to my phone from my Dell Inspiron laptop using bluetooth?

I've been trying to connect to my phone from my new laptop using bluetooth, but when my laptop tells me to type the passkey in on my phone, nothing pops up for me to type it into. My phone is a Samsung Eternity. What should I do?
