How do I care for a toad living in garden?

I have a large toad living in a flower trough at the back of my garden, for most of the day it is half hidden, its rear half under dry leaves etc,it is well shaded by large shrub type plants etc. I have inserted a shallow dish and filled it with water which it sits in from time to time.I would like advice as to care etc, habitat etc Many thanks Peter
