I have a new project in my Tech class, dealing with transportation systems. We must plan a trip from our high school to Los Angeles, CA, in the shortest amount of time and the lowest cost possible. On the problem brief, our teacher specifically gave us this website: cheapoair.com to help with air travel. He also told us to calculate the time zone changes into the time it takes to reach our destination in CA. (We live on the east coast, which California being on the west coast.)

That's what I don't understand: How do I calculate the time zones into my total cost of the trip? Also, we must calculate the "loss of income", which is the travel time X $100 per hour.

I would think time changes wouldn't matter. Time is relative--it doesn't "go back" just because you move into another region. If you travel 3 hours west into another time zone, your travel time is not 0 hours.
