How do I burn a DVD on itunes?

I tried it, and it burned the video onto the dvd and all, but my dvd player won't play it...it just says "no disc". So what do I need to do? I used a DVD-R, do I need to use something different like DVD+R or DVD+RW or DVD-RW?? I don't really know the differences.
