How do factors such as genetics and family environment affect weight/obesity?

I understand that weight is primarily affected by a person's eating and exercise habits (though some medical conditions and/or medications can also play a role). I am also wondering how factors such as family/household environment play a roll in this. Would someone who grows up in a family where the members are overweight have a higher likelihood of being overweight themselves?

Take this family for example:

Person 1: Male, age 50. Approximately 5'10" and weighs over 300 pounds
Person 2: Female, age 46. 5'5" and weighs around 220 pounds
Person 3: Female, age 19. 5'5" and weighs around 155 pounds (lost approximately 28 pounds due to diet/exercise)**
Person 4: Female, age 15, 5'5" and weighs around 182 pounds.

The only person in this group that does not meet the BMI criteria for being "obese" is also the only person who measures portions, tracks food, etc. She also is the only member of this family who drinks no soda (diet or regular). Prior to a weight loss program, she weighed over 180 pounds herself.

While genetics didn't make her fat, is it possible that having obese parents (one being class 2 obese and the other being class 3 [morbidly obese] put these teenagers at higher risk of becoming overweight or obese themselves?
