How do extended cycle birth control pills mess with your cycle?

So, during my last visit to my doctor's office, my doctor told me that I could take my birth control straight through 2 month's worth before taking the sugar pills. It's a monophase pill. I'm about half way through my second 7 week cycle, but I'm just starting to get very anxious about how it actually works in your body, and what sort of changes I should be expecting. For instance, normally I expect ovulation and menstruation about a week apart, does this extend those times, or does it alternate between the phases? One of the reasons I'm worried is because I'm not really sure how I would be able to detect pregnancy symptoms. I know the rate of pregnancy is still rather low, but if I were to become pregnant, I'd like to be able to notice the symptoms (Cervix position, mucus, cramping, etc), and I'm unfamiliar with my current cycle which would make that difficult. Yes, I know I'd start to get morning sick, but I have a stomach disorder which makes me morning sick most days anyway. Additionally, waiting for my missed period could be a less than good idea since my periods are now 6 weeks apart. Any insight anyone has about extended cycle birth control would be nice, thanks :)
