Dumb question but how do all electronics in our daily life (with time) know the time or keep track of time without a pendulum or stuff like that. How do they know when a second or millisecond has passed without some physical thing. My guess, and this is just a stupid guess, something like a digital hourglass? like maybe some amount of data is passed from one place to another and it knows when that data finishes moving, one unit of time has passed.. again just a dumb guess. How do they do it?
