The supreme court ruled sometime back that the "god" on in god we trust on money--is a generic god--not the christian one-and therefore doesn't violate the establishment clause of the constitution. sort of a wishy washy way around sidestepping the issue of establishment of a religion--but in doing so raises some interesting issues. The "god" on in god we trust--therefore represents--buddah, vishnu, jehovah, allah, and even for the satanists satan. Therefore indirectly by carrying money around that says "in god we trust"--christians are actually paying indirect homage to their arch nemisis? How does a chrstian feel about this thorny constitutional issue?
