How do Athletes aspiring to play Division 3 athletics get scholarship/Financial aid?

I hear the rumors of "Good Samaritan" or "Nice guy" scholarships that D3 schools give out to student-athletes, but are they actually real and how much could I get for being a football and baseball player? Also, does D3 school financial aid have anything to do with our parents income since tuition is generally higher? Thank you.
