How do Americans react to foreigners joining the U.S. Military?

Do we appreciate it or despise it?

I think as long as they're joining for a good, they have my respect.
 
The last true "foreigner" to enlist was a Filipino back in 1994. He was the last of 32 non-US citizen/non-Permanent Residents accepted that year.

Since then only US Citizens and Permanent Residents (Green Card holders who are allowed to live and work in the US while waiting for citizenship) have been accepted.
 
there were 2 chicks in my basic flight that were aliens and they were 2 of the greatest airmen!
 
You can't join the military in the U.S. unless you are a citizen or a citizen of one of our territories (Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico)
