I have a 97 Honda Civic that runs great (and I obviously own the car - I have no payments) however there are a few minor dings and paint scratches on the car, including some small hail dings/dents that are restricted to the hood of the car. I've checked online and it seems that I can buy a replacement hood for around $100 (even if not online - I'm sure I could also check junk yards and pick up the hood off of a junk car for around the same price or cheaper). Obviously - the bulk of this repair cost would come from labor.
How difficult/hard would it be to replace the hood myself (with help from a few friends as I'm sure the hood is heavy and would be awkward to handle)? OR - does anyone have any idea of how much labor would be for a job like this, if I were to buy the hood myself and only pay for labor?
I was recently considering buying/leasing a new car, however I just don't think I'm ready to commit to car payments, especially since I've gotten so used to not having this expense. Plus I'm picky and I'd much rather wait until I can get a car that I really want - the Civic has less than 60k original miles and runs just fine. It just needs some minor cosmetic work - but I'd rather not dump thousands of dollars into the car regardless as it's just not worth it. If I can get away with spending less than $500 to fix the minor cosmetic issues with my car- I'd much rather spend that and save the 6-7k that I would've spent as a down payment on a car that I'm not really 100% happy with.
