How difficult is it to remove the transmission on a 99 Dodge Grand Caravan?

I've got a P1391 code along with some engine hesitation at high RPM. While I'd like to think it is the camshaft sensor, I'm reading that a more common cause is a cracked flywheel/flexplate. I usually do relatively easy repairs myself and have a good set of tools. How hard is it to drop the transmission to check? How much time could I expect to spend doing it? If it IS a problem with the flexplate, what can I expect to happen as a result of doing nothing about it?

Just spent $900 having the timing belt replaced (it was shredded), which didn't resolve the code, so I don't have any money to bring it to the shop.
