Personally I really liked the movie. I think its a great blend of dark horror and comedy. I mean on one hand its got funny things in it like the medieval and the Karaoke Jam. But then on the other hand its kind of scary to think that that could really happen to anyone. There are people out there that have abandonment issues and many other things just like Jim's character had in this movie, and I can see how something similar to this could happen and probably has in the past.
I've heard some criticism towards the movie saying it is insensitive to people who have mental disorders. But really, its just a movie and I think it was brilliantly played by both Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick.
