When lancers attacked infantry I'm sure they collided at great speed and presumably the lance would embed itself in an enemy, at this point how would the cavalryman remove his lance and keep fighting? I'm pretty sure the lance wasn't like an expendable type weapon like a javelin and I imagine it would be pretty hard to remove a 3-metre stick from a corpse while on a galloping horse. How exactly did they use their weapons?
By lancers I'm referring to the cavalry type that used lances as their primary weapon in e.g the Napoleonic era.
